IBT, Sorry Michelle Obama Can’t Run In 2020 (DENIED)

April 6, 2017

IBT ran an article on April 6, 2017, in which Jordan Bhatt headlines “Michelle Obama 2020? Rumours swirl as former FLOTUS plots comeback.”

First of all Jordan, Michelle did go to register for the 2020 election in March. There are rules that apply when registering. She met the one on being over 35. She also meets the qualification that she is was born in the U.S.A.

She did not meet the qualification that she must be a resident of the USA for 14 years (means inside the USA). As a child her legal residence was in the British, Virgin Islands. Her parents left it that way so she would be eligible for immigrant status and special consideration for schooling. When she graduated from college, that only gave her two years for residency.

After college she continued to use an address in the Caymen Islands, which she used when filing her tax returns. When she was First Lady, she and then President Obama filed joint tax returns, giving her seven years of residency.

Nine years of residency does not make her qualified to run for the presidency. She would of qualified if the election was in 2021. But since it isn’t, she doesn’t qualify, not the next election anyway.
