If there was some type of nuclear apocalypse, don’t worry if your wealthy and have your own shelter, you’ve got it made. But for those less fortunate, you may be able to survive a nuclear catastrophe if you know how. When possibly surviving a catastrophic event, it depends on your location, how well you have planned for such an event and supplies you have on hand.
The Russians have never stopped making preparations for nuclear war, even after the Cold War. They have completed 5,000 emergency shelters in Moscow alone in 2012.
The Russians have a huge bunker in Mount Yamantau. This massive, expansive area (400 square miles in size) is said to be able to house 60,000 persons. It has a special filtration system in the event of nuclear, chemical or biological war.
What about the Russians that live in the outskirts of densely populated cities like Moscow? They have taken care of that as well. 10-15 meters underneath most apartment blocks, shopping centers, sports complexes are easily built bunkers to accommodate them. The cost of this construction is around a half billion to a billion dollars, no small feat, for sure.
During October 2016, Russia had a drill in which 40 million people participated. They were instructed by state controlled television, NTV what to do in the case of nuclear war, stating: “If that should one day happen, each of you must know where the nearest bomb shelter is.” The statement was followed up with a video explaining what to do in case of this type of disaster. They even went as far to show school children putting on gas masks.
The only system Americans have in educating the public is an alert system that would flash across your TV screen, stating where to go, what to do, where to tune into for information. For Americans it might help to know this information ahead of time since the timing is crucial. Since they haven’t told us where to go, nor what to do in the case of an emergency, I am assuming there are no provisions for most Americans besides the FEMA camps. There have been reports on the web about tunnels underground, beneath Walmarts. Could this be emergency sheltering for Americans?
In Japan and the U.K., since the end of 2016, the citizens there have been instructed to go to their civil defense website, retrieving a downloadable pamphlet which directs them in how to protect themselves in the case of a nuclear apocalypse.
The U.K., like the USA, does not have accomodations for most of the public in case of a nuclear disaster. They have bunkers dotted along the English countryside. But these bunkers are for specially trained officers who will send vital information across the country. According to dailystar.co.uk, only 1% of the citizens would be able to use left over bunkers, should they become available. The biggest shelter that the U.K. has is located in Burlington, Wilts, which could accommodate 100,000 people. But, only a fraction most likely would be housed there. During the Cold War citizens were advised to build their own shelters. Sound familiar?
In Japan, they have been preparing for evacuation since North Korea’s aggressive actions with failed missiles and continued nuclear threats. Japan has seen an increase in the number of personal bunkers being ordered. Normally one company called Shelter Co., would sell around five to six shelters a year. Now they have received at least 200 requests in the last month (since April, 2017) according to dailystar.co.uk. So, I guess those citizens are on their own also if such a catastrophic event should happen.
China has apparently constructed a huge bunker in Shanghai which could shelter 200,000 people. “The million-square-foot complex connects to shopping centers, office buildings, apartment buildings and the subway system via miles of tunnels, the Shanghai Morning Post said in an exclusive report,” as reported to us by churchofphiladelphia.tripod.com. So, again most people are on their own.
Now let me tell you about a luxury bunker that was built in Ector, Texas, as reported by the sun.co.uk. Each of the luxury bunkers (532 of them) connects to underground tunnel systems that leed to a community center, communal greenhouse and dry food storage. They also have room for golfing, spa, gun range, equestrian center, restaurants, shopping or water sports in 3 lagoons with beaches, all beneath a 700 acre plot.
The Rising S Company in Texas also manufactures bomb shelters. They start at £31,000 for a hotel room-sized haven to a luxury option that costs £6.6million which includes a gun range and bowling alley.
Well, it looks like us Americans will have to survive on our own, start preparing now if you haven’t already. There are several prepped sites out there on the web, check them out. Most of their foods are dry storage items, capable of a long shelf life. Remember to have enough water also.
If you have a basement in your home, that’s great, use it to your advantage. Make sure to stack mattresses up against any windows.
Get your medications that you will need.
Depending on how far you are from the blast will dictate how long you must stay in your shelter before you are able to leave it.
It doesn’t hurt to have a plan A and B now, hopefully we will never need it.
I will leave some sites at the bottom for you to check out.
